The company has reached an agreement with GeneVector to develop and offer specialised services in gene and cell therapies. GeneVector has technology for manufacturing lentiviral vectors to introduce genetic material into cells. The alliance will combine GeneVector’s technological capabilities and facilities with Reig Jofre’s industrial and commercial expertise, with the aim of serving both hospitals and biotechnology companies developing this type of treatment.
This deal forms part of Reig Jofre’s strategy to move towards a more biotechnology-focused profile. Following the acquisition of Leanbio at the end of 2025, the pharmaceutical company is in the process of commissioning a new 4,000m² plant in Sant Quirze del Vallès, intended for the production of biologically active ingredients. The facility could produce its first batches in early 2027.
The company is also making progress in developing its first biosimilar medicine, and expects to complete the clinical phase and begin the regulatory process next year.
